ABOUT ME

Like his father Horst as well as his brother Dominic also Mario Farnbacher got the racing gene in his DNA. Already at the age of six years he appeared at the karting tracks and it didn’t take a long time for him to claim the first successes. Competing in the Bambini Class he celebrated victories and titles in Bavaria, before he left a remaining impression also in the Junior Classes in 2005.

With ambition and discipline the highly talented race driver made his way up and over the years he proved that he belongs to a serious and tough rival for his opponents.

Doing so, Mario in 2012 and 2013 competed in the German ADAC GT Masters series at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R for the team Farnbacher Racing and furthermore he was at the start for the first time also in the Sebring 12 hours race.

2014 Farnbacher has competing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship at the wheel of a Porsche for the team Alex Job Racing, where he snatched a couple of podium successes with his team- and driver mate Ian James. In 2015 he additionally started with his family team Farnbacher Racing at the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring.

Mario was breaking new ground in 2017 racing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship for the AMG-Team Riley Motorsports. He also made his debut with Farnbacher Racing in the International GT Open.

The following year, the Franconian drove a Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and after the occasional performance in 2018, Farnbacher was established in 2019 as a regular driver. Together with team colleague Trent Hindman, he was crowned champion in the GTD class. In addition, Farnbacher was part of the Honda manufacturer’s commitment in the 2019 Intercontinental GT Challenge in Laguna Seca and also at the 24 Hours of Spa.

Intercontinental GT Challenge

The Intercontinental GT Challenge, or IGTC, is an international GT championship organised by the SRO Motorsports Group. It consists of five endurance races spread across five different continents, visiting spectacular circuits such as Mount Panorama and Spa-Francorchamps. The season starts in Bathurst, Australia and ends in Kyalami, South Africa. Both drivers‘ and manufacturers‘ titles are awarded at the end of the season.

In 2020, Mario Farnbacher will be competing for Honda Racing Team JAS in a Honda NSX GT3 Evo.

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) offers sports car racing at the highest level. The series was created in 2013 from the merger of the American Le Mans Series and the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and forms the highest American sports car series. The series includes several Sprint and Endurance races, held on different racetracks in North America.

Beside the Prototypes, GT3 vehicles are also fielded in two classes: GTLM and GTD. In the GTD class, Mario Farnbacher drives an Acura NSX GT3 of the Meyer Shank Racing team.
